The northernmost Amethyst Mine in the world is on top of a fell in Finnish Lapland beyond the Arctic Circle near Luosto recreation resort. The amethyst deposit is the richest in Europe and it contains probably the oldest amethyst on earth, crystallized 2000 million years ago.
The mine operates in sustainable way, no big machines are used and amethyst is not sold as raw material. Instead the mine is a unique attraction where annually thousands of travellers hear facts and mystique stories and experience the joy of finding their own lucky amethyst that nobody else has ever touched. The mine is open for groups and individual travelers all year round.
